A long run

April 29, 2007 · 1 Comment

Today was time to increase my run was hoping for around an hour. I had forgotten exactly how far the route was as it was ages since i’d done it.
Garmin says 5.82 miles
Decided to measure my splits but in km, they’re shorter, and to go as slow as i could naturally go lol

1st 4km went ok (6;47, 6:47, 6:46, 6:45)
5 & 6 km (6;32, 6:33)
7km 6:41 (stopped to tie shoelace)
8km 6:37
9km 6:14 This is 10:03 miling, though this is on the flattest part of the route
last 361metres 6:54 pacing though as i was literally 50metres from home met a dog i know and just had to stop to say hello.

All in all happy even though legs are protesting. Longest run in a long time and pace not far off from what i was training at last year so can’t grumble
Average pace 6;39 per km think thats 10:42 per mile.

Legs seemed to be grumbling afterwards all achy and that, they’ve just gotten out of the habit for running for more than an hour. I just have to show them who’s boss.

A long hard run…

April 26, 2007 · 8 Comments

… all 4½ miles of it.

Sorry i didn’t get to post yesterday long busy day. I managed to get a run in a distance i’ve been finding easy legs felt heavy throughout and certainly not relaxed. The night previously i had been pushing big trolleys of drinks about so i’m guessing this is the reason. But i managed it running all the way, took me 48:13.

Today is a rest day, totally will try and relax as much as possible legs feel the same today another busy night, at least i’m not working tonight so i’m looking forward to a good nights sleep.

Why the rest, tomorrow is my first race of 2007 looking forward to it, its just 5km, if i can find my race number i know its somewhere here

week 3 day 1

April 23, 2007 · 2 Comments

Well 3rd week of my comeback, crazy because the first day i could only maanage 6 minutes at a time (1 minute rest at near 11 minute miles, yet now i can run 45 minutes non stop at close to 10:30 miles. It is true that your body holds some sort of memory, knowing it has done this thing before. So really happy with myself. And todays run was one of those runs that feels just Ggggggreat as Tony the tiger would say (Frosties commercial). Well will try the same again on Wednesday, Racing Friday.
Maybe even tackle an hour on Sunday – Whoopy-doo.

Mad dogs and Englishmen and runners go out in the midday sun

April 21, 2007 · 6 Comments

Oh i wonder if Noel Coward ever ran or if he knew any runners and what he would make of it all. When is the best time to run especially in the summer. When it is a lot warmer, do you go early in the morning or wait till the sunsets. But of course the majority of races are run when the sun is at its highest, or at least very close to it. Does it make sense to occasionally go out in the midday sun.

Today i had no choice, well i suppose we all have a choice, being i work nights and i was working last night it was gone midday when i set out. I thought it is going to be warm and it was but i have a race on Friday at lunchtime so it’ll be good practice.  Today i went out and ran a whole 7.14km (4.43miles) ok not a whole number but its the furthest i’ve run in absolute months. Beautiful day out loads of cyclists. But only one acknowledged me.

Cooling down in the garden afterwards and this robin flew down onto the grass, shame i didn’t have my camera with me i really hope he will come back

Running with Robbie

April 19, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Oh how i wish

Another 6km today, hamstring was a little achy but no real bother  need to do some work on the area as it is obviously a weak area. It was a beautiful day out was worried it might be a little warm but with a nice breeze it was georgous slapped on the sunscreen beforehand and went of for my run. I don’t normally run with music but felt i needed to today if only to keep me going had set my  MP3 player on random so who knows wgat i was going to get, theres all sort of stuff on there some old stuff, some classics and some Robbie ;) Hot fudge, Come Undone and Let me Entertain you.

Think on Saturday might go all the way with Robbie.

No sniggering at the back please.

Good run though don’t really have any idea on time but thats not important getting out there running further, may try a 7km on Saturday just to get that bit further

John Stephen Akhwari

April 18, 2007 · Leave a Comment

My country did not send me to Mexico City to start the race. They sent me to finish the race. John Stephen Akhwari of Tanzania

Here is a  man who was obviously so injured early in the marathon at the 1968 Olympics yet he carried on, and he was surprised when asked why he continued running. There are many inspirational stories and you wonder why yourself would you carry on. You could do yourself more damage. There are many people who when i read their stories i am struck with awe i just wanted to share this mans story with you. Yet he never got the plaudits of an olympic medal but i bet he felt just as proud if not prouder.

Oh dear

April 18, 2007 · 4 Comments

Stayed up too late last night or should i say this morning, it was gone 2am by the time i hit the duvet. Much to say i didn’t get out to run today, very naughty of me.

I must get to bed early tonight to get some sleep and a run tomorrow i must. Back to work tomorrow so must get into some routine

Been out in the garden again but no more weeding till next weed i have so much for the council to pick up, they’ve started to collect garden waste now, hope they will take it all even though they say that we can put an extra 3 bags out – i have about 3 times that much

Council men they are lovely

When will i ever learn?

April 16, 2007 · 3 Comments

Well the other week when i tried to get back running i had to stop because i felt pain in my left hamstring. Couldn’t fathom it out straight away but after discussion with some others on the Runners world (UK) forum decided it must have been the gardening i did in the days beforehand. Trouble with me i don’t know when to stop.

Well i spent a bit of time yesterday afternoon in the garden weeding, hours in fact. Today when i went out for my run was ok to start with but after a mile it reacted again, not as bad as the first time could run on it but my common sense gene was yelling at my brain (yes i do have one) to stop running and alk home, preserve it and don’t do more damage  so a bit of a run and a walk oday totalling around 5km

Rest day tomorrow. Yes i was out in the garden again today but did manage to drag myself in  after 1½ hours.

Thing is my gardens a mess and i want to get it done oh so nicely. Have plety of seeds i want to plant before its too late.
